"Religious Tones but None of them Hit Home"
My Movie Grading: F
I'm not at all into religious historical drama's but my husband kept saying this movie was awesome and that I should watch it. I did. Sadly my gut feeling about the film was spot on. If you know anything about religion then you've heard about the story of Noah and the Arc that he builds which keeps him, his family and 2 (male and female) of each animal alive from a huge flood that washes away the sin & violence that had plagued the earth since Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of Forbidden fruit and then Cain killing off his brother Abel.
The film starts out with a weird opening scene with Noah and (who we assume is his father) having some type of spiritual ritual with the snake skin from the snake that tricked Eve. A large group of Tubal-Cain followers arrive (with Tubal-Cain heading the group) and kill his father. From there the story goes a little left for me as they fast forward to Noah grown scavenging on a hillside for food with his sons and an animal with an arrow in it's side running past them (Tubal-Cain followers not too far behind) and Noah killing them. Before this a rain drop falls and a flower immediately grows from the drop as Noah stares at it in amazement & disbelief. At some point he gets a vision from God and then the story pretty much follows the original story. So all in all the film follows the Bible story semi-closely with actors Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly and Emma Watson staring but for me it just didn't hit home on a religious or entertainment level. Check it out for yourself to see what you think.
That's my take,
L.
