"The Glitz, The Glamorous and a Murder"
My Movie Grade - A-
I won't give away the story this time but this movie is highly recommended!
This movie in general just blew me way out the water. I heard the rumblings about how the film was suppose to be really well done, displayed awesome visuals, had a great cast, etc. almost a year before it was set to be released. Once it was finally released in the early May 2013, I couldn't believe how well done this movie was. Baz Luhrmann remade this film from the book with the same title but also from the 1926 silent film and the 1974 color versions all under the same title. The story is full of all the things a good drama should have - lies, deceit, affairs, love and eventually murder. It just came together so well on screen and I actually really liked the cast. I think Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire were absolutely phenomenal in this adaption. We all love Leonardo DiCaprio since playing young Jack Dawson in Titanic and we all know how that story ended. This one takes a similar route as far as the ending but there is a interesting twist that will make your skin boil. I promise that by the end of this movie - you'll hate Daisy, Tom and the whole lot of them.
For all the guys who have refused to see this movie - let me be the first to mention that my Fiance really liked this movie and he in no way likes loves stories. It's not just a girly flick! It's full of all the things men like too - action, cars, money, lust, envy and the list goes on. You also come to love the main characters; particularly Jay Gatsby but also still be intrigued by all the others too. I totally recommend this movie to anyone who had reservations about it's timely feel or about the story in general. It will not disappoint.
That's my take,
L.
