I'm extremely excited to even be writing about this post! So I will start off with my love for all things related to the Hunger Games. Whether the books or the movies, press junkets, exclusive film festival releases, trailer releases - the whole thing I'm just really excited about the franchise. I was not originally a fan of the Hunger Games. I didn't actually decide to read the book until the casting of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss began to get all crazy and everyone who had read the books kept talking about how she would be such a great fit for the movies trilogy. To be honest - I hadn't even paid attention to who she was until I remembered seeing in her on the cover of a movie call "Winter's Bone" - how I remembered her from that - when I didn't even see the movie - I have no idea. (Real Quick - One thing you'll learn from me is that my family especially my fiance and parents know that anything related to movies -I KNOW! Even if I haven't seen the movie - I could probably tell you who was in it and what other movies - they have been in! I love movies that much!) Anyway - a coworker bragged about how she read the books in a few days and loved the story so I decided I would show her up and read them in a few days too. That didn't pan out (took me almost a month) but I did read the books in entirety and loved them. Each character bought something different to the table and some characters like Peeta - I just came to love and others like President Snow - I came to hate.
Around the time the first movie came out was when I had finished the books and was so disappointed in direction they took the first movie that I was almost turned off from going back to see Catching Fire. I mean when I say they messed the storyline up, had JLAW (Jennifer Lawrence) acting way ruder than she was in the book and missed MAJOR events from the book - I was hot. My thing is -don't make a movie based off a book - if you refuse to do it correctly or exactly. Like I know somethings aren't possible but for gosh sakes - graphics have grown by leaps and bounds over the past 15 yeaars, so many things are possible. I'm hoping that the direction of the third film is as awesome as the direction of the second film. Catching Fire told the story almost verbatum of how it was in the book and was really well done compared to the first film. Lets hope that the first part of Mockingjay lives up to expectation and that the 2nd and final part of the trilogy finishes everything with the bang the audiences are expecting.
Lots of new faces have been added to the cast and plenty of cast returning to the final films 2 part trilogy including - Evan Ross (son of Diana Ross), Julianne Moore (President Coin), the late Phillip Seymour Hoffman (returning as Plutarch Heavensbee), Donald Sutherland (President Snow) and of course JLaw (Jennifer Lawrence returning as Katniss). Get ready for one hell of a last ride with this triology and if you havent read the books - Start Now!
That's my take,
L.
